History of the farmhouse
The year of construction is carved into the wooden lintel above the front door and places the house in the 17th century. Family tradition has it that it was built for one of the daughters of the master of Capdevila, the neighbouring farmhouse, and that it was originally the garden to the south of that house. That is where the name comes from: el Patí de Capdevila, "the courtyard of Capdevila", later shortened to el Patí. The two houses shared a single estate for centuries: until recently, el Patí and Capdevila were one land-registry plot under the name of Capdevila.
Capdevila is documented from the 16th century as one of the properties of the monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll in the municipality of Borredà, and today it is listed in the Architectural Heritage Inventory of Catalonia. The Capdevila family combined farming and livestock with spinning and weaving wool, and by the 18th century they were recorded as wholesale wool merchants.
Between the two houses stand the ruins of the original Capdevila, older than the farmhouse that now carries the name. They are reached along a track in good condition, better on foot as the grass grows thick, and it makes a short walk straight from el Patí.
